Maca Powder

Oh how we here at Green Powders love the mighty Maca Root….Grown high in the Peruvian Andes at over 4000m above sea level, Maca is a root plant renowned for its ability to enhance strength, stamina and even libido.

“The Superfood of the Andes” which has also been labelled “Peruvian ginseng” is also known to have an ability to help rebuild weak immune systems and increase energy and endurance.

It contains a huge array of nutrients and is popular with customers of all sexes, all ages and all activity levels.

Maca contains Vitamin B1,Vitamin B2 and the antioxidant Vitamin C along with Iron and Selenium, Magnesium, Calcium and Potassium. It also contains the essential trace elements iron, iodine, copper, manganese, and zinc as well as fatty acids, including linolenic acid, palmitic acid, and oleic acids, and 19 amino acids.

Maca’s little hidden gem is a natural chemical called p-methoxybenzyl isothiocyanate, which reputedly has aphrodisiac properties along with favourable effects on energy, mood and sexual desire all whilst decreasing anxiety.

Another huge benefit of Maca is its dietary fibre content, an absolutely essential part of our intake and one which many modern foods lack in sufficiency. Dietary fibre aids digestion and speeds up the excretion of waste and toxins from the body. This prevents them from sitting in the intestine or bowel, which could cause a build-up and lead to several diseases. It is also known to promote the growth of a certain friendly bacteria.

There are several slightly-differing variants of Maca, which express themselves in the colour of the root and hypocotyl. Maca can be cream, yellow-gold, green, red, purple, grey or black. Fundamentally these have the same basic nutritional profile, but they exhibit small differences in the proportions of secondary phytonutrients they present. Scientific study has begun to confirm the dietary opinion that different colours of Maca have slightly different properties. Green Powder Maca powder was chosen because it provides a nutritional profile useful to all people, particularly active and athletic people.

Production

Green Powder raw Maca is grown over a period of eight months, which gives time for the nutritional profile to develop fully. A further three months is given to a natural, open-air drying process. The dried roots are cleaned and broken into small pieces, which are then milled to powder.
